Technical Document

BRIEF OVERVIEW

purified terephthalic acid (PTA) is a raw material which is used in the production of high-performance multipurpose plastics like polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT) and even forms of bioplastics. It also finds its vast usage in the production of polyester fibers in the global market. They are used to manufacture polyester coating resins for manufacturing general metal, appliances, automotive, industrial maintenance even coil coatings.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

At first step of production process, Crude Terephthalic Acid (CTA) is produced through catalytic liquification and oxidation among air, paraxylene (as main raw material) and acetic acid (as solvent) and then the CTA is hydrogenated to remove the impurities and then is separated and dried to produce fibre grade PTA.

Polyester Fibers

Polyester fibers based on PTA provide easy fabric care, both alone and in blends with natural and other synthetic fibers. Polyester films are used widely in audio and video recording tapes, data storage tapes, photographic films, labels and other sheet material requiring both dimensional stability and toughness.

Terephthalate Plasticizers

Terephthalic acid is used as a raw material to make terephthalate plasticizers such as dioctyl terephthalate and dibutyl terephthalate.

Research Laboratory

In the research laboratory, terephthalic acid has been popularized as a component for the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks.
